Raíces Eléctricas
I left Argentina with a guitar and not much of a plan. Years on the road taught me the parts no one teaches: how to busk for bus fare, how to keep time when the crowd is three people and a dog, how to start over in a language that wasn't mine yet. Berlin is where the noise settled into rhythm — cumbia run through circuits, roots run through concrete. Yuyo Rojo is not a metaphor about plants. It's about what grows back after you cut it down. I grow where I'm not supposed to.
The name comes from Rioplatense Spanish — yuyo is the weed that comes up through pavement cracks, in abandoned lots, along rail tracks. Nobody plants it. It survives neglect, gets pulled out, comes back anyway. Rojo because the signal is red. Not stop — alert. Something alive, under pressure, about to break through.
Electronic cumbia is not a genre, it's a collision. The rhythm is Andean, Caribbean, Atlantic. The sound is Berlin basement, circuit board, borrowed equipment, 4am. The tension between those two things — that's where Yuyo Rojo lives.
